ULCINJ

Ulcinj is the southernmost city at Montenegrin coast. With its natural potential Ulcinj is tourism borne. The longest beach at the Adriatic sea – Velika Plaza that is 13 km long, the Ada Bojana – a unique river island with marvelous sandy beaches, Valdanos – a unique bay with a coastline covered in old olive trees, the reconstructed old city of Ulcinj – full of interesting restaurants, cafés, galleries and hotels … and many other attractive sights make Ulcinj unique and attractive for many tourists. Ulcinj is a city that you have to visit.

When we are talking about beaches, Ulcinj with the surroundings is recognized even outside the borders of Montenegro. It has characteristic very long and beautiful beaches with the unique petty sand a lot like flour. The coast of Ulcinj is 32, 72 km long, of which 18,10km are beaches. The most beautiful and the largest are sandy beaches of 14, 40 km length. Among numerous beaches (there are about 25 of them), with its beauty, size and the surrounding ambience only sandy beaches: Velika plaza (The Big beach), Mala plaza (The Small beach), Ada Bojana, as well as the beaches Borove sume (The Pine forests) and Valdanos stand out.

Ulcinj is above all visited because of the sun, sea, and sandy beaches as many visitors have pointed out that those are “God given beaches” made out of the pettiest grains of grayish and warm sand. Warm, clear and transparent sea whose transparency of 56 meters, measured in Ulcinj, is the biggest on the Adriatic Sea, with mild coastal climate, are an irresistible motif for every tourist.

It is known that, when we are talking about the climate, because of the very few tropical days, Ulcinj is the most coveted town for the vacation on the Montenegrin coast. The highest measured temperature of air in the summer reaches 38 C o while the average temperature is 25, 2 C o . During the summer months sun heats up to 11.5 hours a day. Sunbathing and swimming season last almost 6 months (from May to October)

Numerous foreign tourists come back to Ulcinj from year to year. Especially is a big number of those who have their vacations in the mouth of the River Bojana, on a beach with petty sand, spending their summer vacation as they themselves have told “in the costumes of Adam and Eve”, truly experiencing a new encounter with the Mother Nature. There are those tourists who choose beaches of Ulcinj because, as they say, the area in which Ulcinj is situated “brings them back the energy and the forgotten emotions”.

There almost does not exist a tourist who has spent his vacation in Ulcinj and that hasn't visited the Ulcinj`s Big beach. That beautiful beach is only 5 kilometers away from the center of Ulcinj. The Big beach is 12 km long and 60 m wide. The surface of the beach is 600.000 meters. The capacity of the beach is 150.000 swimmers. The Big beach in Ulcinj is favorite among tourists because of the petty sand, whose grain has a diameter of 0, 1 to 0, 5 mm and it resembles flour. That sand has very effective healing features, so lying on it is recommended first of all because of the problems with the extremities, sciatica, and spine and for curing of the fertility. Bellow the cope Djeran, at the very beginning of the big beach there is a marina better known as “Porta Milena” (“Harbor Milena”) a real gem for the eyes, deeply drawn into the land with numerous wooden cottages on the water which local people call Kalimera (“calimeras”).

Very interesting to the numerous swimmers is also the Small beach in Ulcinj or as it is otherwise called city beach. The length of the beach is 376 meters and the surface is 12.787 m. The pettiest, fine sand covers its sandy strand. The Little beach is situated in one of the most beautiful coves of Ulcinj, between the peninsulas Ratislava and Starogradska Tvrdjava (Old town fortress). The beach satisfies world norms of 5 m, free space per swimmer, so its capacity is 2.557 tourists. On the peninsula Ada Bojana that is paradise beautiful, there is a beach of a same name, exclusively reserved for nudists, which is 1.880 meters long. What is specific about this extremely attractive beach is its very location – as the island around which the beach is situated of a triangular shape, from two sided it is being splashed by the still River Bojana, and from the third side there is the sea, so at the same time there is a possibility of swimming both in salty and sweet water. Also, on the Small beach of Ulcinj the normative is respected, according to which the swimmers have to have 5 meters of free space, so the capacity of the beach is 12.880 guests.

Except for the adults, Ulcinj`s Big and Small beach and Ada Bojana, are extremely suitable for the children, because of the sandy shoal, which enables carefree swimming, but also sunbathing and playing on a long sandy shore.

The Ulcinj cove Valdanos, is a very unusual and interesting place, with 800 meters long and gravelly beach. The gravel soil ensued from the dismembering of the stony pebbles, spreads over 14.000 meters of useful surface. Right behind the beach Valdanos, you'll come up to two more beautiful and for tourists, very interesting beaches: Stari Ulcinj (The Old Ulcinj) and the beach Kruce. The Beach Old Ulcinj is 250 meters long and 20 meters wide. Its surface is 5.000 meters and the capacity is 1.000 swimmers. Gravelly beach Kruce is 600 meters long and 10 meters wide, and its surface is 6.000 meters. The capacity of the beach is 1.200 swimmers

Along the pine forest, between hotels “Albatros” (“Albatross”) and “Galeb” (“Gull”), on the space of the length of 1 km there is a line of smaller nicely arranged hotel beaches. Those are: Ludovigs, Paneuropa (Pan Europe), Skalice, Borici I (Small pine trees I), Borici II (Small pine trees II), Zenska plaza (Female beach), the beach of the hotel “Albatros” in which a part of the beach is arranged for the nudists. Below the Ulcinj`s old town fortress there is a beach called “Dvora Balsica” (“The Castle of Balsici”), and then the beaches Liman I and Liman II follow.

Especially is interesting the Female beach, which is situated between hotels “Albatros” and “Galeb”. The beach has sulfite medicinal water and springs which salutary influence on female illnesses and help curing of sterility with women. A great number of women from the country and abroad visit it. The beach is a nudist beach, and exclusively for women.

If one day of your holiday you wish to spend as a real adventurer, we suggest that you go with your own car or rent – a – car to river Bojana, where several kilometers away from the center of the town Sasko Lake is located. Sasko Lake is rich with fish, transparent lake water, and in the nearby there are the remains of the ancient or as it is today called “dead city” Svac. Also, on the very brim of the River Bojana, which in a strange way is connected with the lake and the sea, you'll see a line of gorgeous colorful pile – dwelling houses, which in the past were used by the nudists and other tourists for the rest and recreation. Also, if you decide to spend one afternoon on the shore of the River Bojana, you can enjoy talking to county fisherman about how and in what way they fish lake or sea fish. However, on the shore of the River Bojana, beside numerous authentic fishermen houses and attractive restaurants, in which you can try out the fresh sea fish or sea products, there is a lovely nudist beach, well known even on the tourist maps of the world.
